One of the most magical works ever written for violin and piano, Szymanowski’s The Fountain of Arethusa conjures up a shimmering world of flowing water, flickering colours, volcanic energy and soaring melodies. Recorded with my friend and superb pianist Evgenia Startseva.

Originally composed for solo piano in 1932–33, Shostakovich's 24 Preludes are remarkable musical miniatures, full of contrast, wit, lyricism and unexpected harmonic turns. They were transcribed for violin and piano by Dmitri Tsyganov, violinist of the Beethoven Quartet and a close associate of the composer.

Prokofiev’s Sonata for Two Violins op. 56, is perhaps the greatest, most kaleidoscopic work ever written for two violins. Apart from demanding a myriad colours and techniques it creates something less duo and more orchestral score. Unlike many works inspired by the music of other great composers, it seems this Sonata was actually Prokofiev’s response to a poorly written violin duo by a composer which compelled the young Prokofiev to prove to himself that "it had to be possible to write at least fifteen minutes of good music for this small ensemble!"Prokofiev Sonata for two violins Op.56 - IV.
